The BitDefender antivirus series, despite its high marks on numerous and prestigious online testing centers, still continues to irk a minority of users especially with its alleged performance issues. Complaints like BitDefender not working well on Windows, or even BitDefender not working at all continue to be discussed and voiced out in online help communities and forums.
The BitDefender suite of antivirus applications is Softwin’s answer to the threat of malicious software circulating in the Internet. Viruses, spyware, and worms flourish in bogus and seemingly legitimate Web sites looking for some computer to victimize. The BitDefender offers an array of protection services designed to block incoming threats even before they land in your operating system.
Every version of BitDefender has its propriety virus scanner, virus database, and simple-to-use interface. The regular and more complete versions such as the BitDefender Internet Security 2009 and the Total Security 2009 have state-of-the-art firewalls which automatically and proactively background checks your personal computer from malware. It also obtains periodic updates of its list of viruses which have come out, and even detect those unidentified viruses with signatures that haven’t been released yet.
Aside from getting the regular and full package, the BitDefender suite also blocks hackers and automated programs from illegally obtaining personal information from your private accounts and even your personal computer. It blocks (phishing), and plugs information leaks in your E-mail messaging and instant messaging systems, and monitors your data entry protocols.
It also performs an automatic back-up of your sensitive information, files, and folders, and stores these in its very own File Vault which is impervious to malware attacks. It encrypts incoming and outgoing messages to discourage hacks.
Softwin also has your family’s protection in mind. With the proliferation of inappropriate Web sites and E-mail messages in the Internet, it is imperative to protect your children when they are surfing the Web. The BitDefender suite has components that block the entry of inappropriate E-mail or lewd Web sites on your browser, and even limits access to some Web sites at your specifications.
BitDefender Not Working?
Philosophically speaking, BitDefender is an imperfect product, and it does contribute to the factors as well. Sometimes these problems are caused mainly by the users themselves, whose computers suffer from lag time as BitDefender does its proprietary scanning activities. Complaints are filed all the while not knowing that they’ve configured BitDefender’s scan properties to search for large batches of files, archived files, and other unnecessary data.

A common complaint of BitDefender’s applications is that it is a virtual resource hog. This means that whenever BitDefender tries to launch its firewall scanning activities, or does a background scan on E-mails, transient files, and the like, it notably eats up a lot of the CPU’s resources, sometimes indicating a whopping 98% resource use. Of course, this probably only comes when two or more antivirus (or similar scanning software) does background scans at the same time.
Sometimes people complain about BitDefender not working because it failed to stop a malware threat a short period after it was installed. One forum member related about turning off his previous anti-spyware application and a regular antivirus, and then installing a BitDefender edition. Hours later, his computer got infected with adware, leading him to conclude that BitDefender has no potency at stopping malware. Of course, one can only wonder what kind of settings he employed with regards to BitDefender’s firewall.
However, there are problems with the BitDefender antivirus tools that are quite legitimate. Softwin has included in each of its BitDefender packages the option to contact customer support anytime concerning problems like BitDefender not working or BitDefender failing to stop malware.
